Meet the CHS Staff Family:
Barbara H. Murray
Barbara considers it both a privilege and an honor to have the opportunity to serve this church body for over the last 20 years. She joined the staff in 2002 to help with the Adult Ministry and a few years later, she was called into ordained ministry to serve as a deacon. Barbara has worked in a variety of capacities at Church of the Holy Spirit over the years, and currently oversees Pastoral Care, Sunday Worship Support, and co-Leads CHS Prayer Ministry. Barbara is passionate about loving Jesus and serving people. As part of her present pastoral care duties, she faithfully visits widows, shut-ins, and the sick. She was ordained September 2008 by Bishop Terrell Glenn (AMiA) and is pursuing graduate studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Barbara’s road to Roanoke began in the blustery Midwest. Born and raised in Wisconsin, this reformed Cheesehead started her southward progression in high school with a move to South Carolina. She graduated from the University of South Carolina and then moved to Charlotte, where she met and married her own southern gentleman, Steve. Barbara and Steve are the proud parents to Elizabeth and Madeline, and happy in-laws to Elizabeth’s husband, David, and Madeline’s husband, Scott. They have three grandsons, Dean, Briggs, & Everett. Golf, basketball, snow skiing, sailing, and triathlons are just a few of Barbara’s athletic pursuits. Although she is a fierce competitor and former scratch golfer, Barbara admits to letting her daughters win at Candy Land when they were young.
